When the house was dark
The trick-or-treaters came
When we turned on the lights
They all stayed away
Ah, kids!

I finished the cards
Completed the signs
Delivered the calligraphy
Mostly on time
We celebrated birthdays
And our anniversary too
With one trip to Disney
And two to the zoo
This month’s almost over
I sigh with relief
Then I remember –
Jeff’s birthday’s next week!

Fifteen babies
Crawling across the floor
Or was it fifty?
Pile of puppets
Scatter with the help of
Newly-walking feet
Squirms and
Squeals and laughter
Permeate the room –
Halloween hyper
Must be catching.

Less than two months
Just over eight weeks
Under sixty days
Shopping or
Crafting days
Left until Christmas –
Scared yet?

Here is today's poem -- this is what we did with one of the pumpkin patch pumpkins.

The pumpkin was small
Squat and plain
I wanted to make it scary
So I thought about
What scared me most
This year
And then I drew
Two sparkling eyes -- blue
A pert nose
A rosebud mouth
With teeth -- eight
But the pumpkin was cute
Not scary
Then I drew red spots
On the pumpkin's face
So it looked like
A baby
With chicken pox
And that was scary
