Chapter 43

October 29, 2011 – Leaving the mental hospital

Slowly

We walk back

To the hospital

To the nurse

In the comic scrubs

And wait

She tells us

That the doctor

Needs to clear my brother

To go

But it won’t be a

Moment

Several

Moments pass

Before he is cleared

To go

But he is

Cleared to go

And very quickly

As quickly as I can go

We go

But before

We go

The nurse in the comic scrubs says

So many veterans

So many who have attempted suicide

Have nowhere

To go

No one

Will take them in

Not their families

Not their friends

And they don’t

They won’t

Survive

Because they have

Nowhere

To go
